Efficient and cost-effective soft magnetic materials (SMMs) are essential for accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles and the sustainable growth of renewable electricity. While amorphous and nanocrystalline SMMs offer remarkably low magnetic losses, their poor mechanical properties, limited availability in size and shape (particularly ribbon widths), and high cost prevent them from widespread industrial application. Here, we show that ductile Fe-6.5%Si 2-D flakes could be used as building blocks for making high performance bulk SMMs. This approach bypasses the brittleness problem and creates a new morphology and a new fabrication method for the SMMs with improved energy efficiency ...

Effect Of Catholyte Concentration On Current Production During Chocolate Industry Wastewater Treatment By A Microbial Fuel Cell, Diana Rahayuning Wulan, Suprihanto Notodarmojo 2020 Research Unit of Clean Technology, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Bandung 40135, Indonesia

Effect Of Catholyte Concentration On Current Production During Chocolate Industry Wastewater Treatment By A Microbial Fuel Cell, Diana Rahayuning Wulan, Suprihanto Notodarmojo

Makara Journal of Technology

Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) use bacteria as a catalyst to oxidize organic and/or inorganic substrates and produce electric currents. Wastewater could function as an electron donor in the anode chamber and, thus, represents a very promising energy source. Catholytes, as electron acceptors, influence power production in MFCs by increasing the availability of electrons. The present research aims to determine the influence of catholyte concentration on current production in an aerobic two-chamber MFC. Aerobic treatment was carried out in the two-chamber MFC operated in an incubator at 37 ? 1 °C with and without aeration in the cathode chamber. Wastewater from ...

Makara Journal of Technology

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is one of the main causes of liver damage, which can also lead to chronic hepatitis B (CHB) infection. More than 240 million individuals worldwide are chronic carriers of HBV. Among individuals with CHB who are untreated, approximately 15% – 40% will progress to liver cirrhosis or cancer. The interactions between HBV and host immune response play significant roles in the progression of CHB. CHB can be generally divided into four different clinical phases: immune tolerance (IT), immune clearance, inactive carrier, and Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-negative reactivation phase (ENEG). Many studies showed that interleukins ...

Redesign Of Product Packaging With Kansei Engineering: Empirical Study On Small-Medium Enterprises In Indonesia, Amalia Suzianti, A. Aldianto

Makara Journal of Technology

Small-medium enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia have been proven to be one of the important pillars of the national economy. Unfortunately, some problems hinder their development, and one of the critical problems is the quality of product packaging. The packages of SME products are considered poor, dirty, and unattractive. Packaging problem is one of the factors why consumers are less interested in buying and why SME products always lose in the competition with other products. This study discusses how to employ Kansei engineering to design better SME product packaging with a focus on psychological (affective) aspects. This research concludes that there ...

Finite-Strain Scale-Free Phase-Field Approach To Multivariant Martensitic Phase Transformations With Stress-Dependent Effective Thresholds, Hamed Babaei, Valery I. Levitas 2020 Iowa State University

Finite-Strain Scale-Free Phase-Field Approach To Multivariant Martensitic Phase Transformations With Stress-Dependent Effective Thresholds, Hamed Babaei, Valery I. Levitas

Aerospace Engineering Publications

A scale-free phase-field model for martensitic phase transformations (PTs) at finite strains is developed as an essential generalization of small-strain models in Levitas et al. (2004) and Idesman et al. (2005). The theory includes finite elastic and transformational strains and rotations as well as anisotropic and different elastic properties of phases. The gradient energy term is excluded, and the model is applicable for any scale greater than 100 nm. The model tracks finite-width interfaces between austenite and the mixture of martensitic variants only; volume fractions of martensitic variants are the internal variables rather than order parameters. The concept of the ...

Basis Set Truncation Further Clarifies Vibrational Coherence Spectra, Daniel B. Turner, Paul C. Arpin 2020 Boise State University

Basis Set Truncation Further Clarifies Vibrational Coherence Spectra, Daniel B. Turner, Paul C. Arpin

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

Coherent vibrational oscillations in femtosecond transient-absorption spectra have been interpreted since the 1990s using a model based on Gaussian wavepacket dynamics. The oscillations are often studied using probe-wavelength dependent plots of the oscillation amplitude and phase that are known as vibrational coherence spectra. Here we show that restricting the basis of the wavepacket to a small number of eigenstates clarifies several features in vibrational coherence spectra. Improving the understanding of vibrational coherence signatures will help distinguish them from signatures of electronic coherence that arise from measurements of strongly coupled excitonic states in molecular aggregates and light-harvesting proteins.

CHEMISTRY AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

Considering that many derivatives of bis carbamates have different biological activity, it was intuitive to produce a targeted synthesis of new derivatives of bis carbamates by the interaction of hexamethylene diisocyanate with 3,5-diode-4-hydroxybenzoic acid and 2,4,6-triiodophenol (1: 2 mol, respectively) in freshly distilled dry pyridine at 95-110 оC for 6 hours, the corresponding derivatives were obtained - methylene bis carbamates. Experimental studies have been conducted to identify the acute toxicity and radiopaque properties of the synthesized new N, -hexamethylene bis (2,6-diode-4-carboxyphenylcarbamate).
