This thesis presents the concept of using a two wheeled robot on the moon and briefly explores the requirements for successful long term operation in a lunar environment. The mathematical model for the motion of a robot with two fixed wheels on a differential drive with in a global reference frame. The robot is assumed to be balancing a platform so the mathematical model to balance the platform with wheel motors is also developed and briefly evaluated.

The tuned liquid column damper (TLCD), a passive damping device consisting of a large U-tube with oscillating liquid, has been shown to be effective at mitigating structural responses under natural hazards. Aside from their bandwidth-limited mitigation capabilities, a key limitation of TLCDs is in their large geometries that occupy large space often at prime locations. This study was conducted to examine the impact of dumpsites on the quality of groundwater and surface water. The water samples and leachates were collected from dumpsites in respective zones. The physicochemical properties of the samples were examined and determined in accordance with the standards of the American Public Health Association. Optimization based on various defected ground structure techniques, resonator designs, and type of dielectric materials is discussed. Microstrip bandpass filters implemented at UWB frequency bands used in wireless communication systems have key features to control frequency response in passband and stopband. Electrospinning technique provides a versatile route in producing tunable diameter and pores in nanofiber filtration membrane development. Memristors are considered to be next-generation non-volatile memory devices owing to their fast switching and low power consumption. Metal oxide memristors have been extensively investigated and reported to be promising devices, although they still suffer from poor stability and laborious fabrication process. Advances in nanomaterials, combined with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), have allowed electrochemical biosensors to have high sensitivity while remaining label-free, enabling the potential for portable diagnosis at the point-of-care. We report porous, 3D vertically aligned carbon nanotube (VACNT) electrodes with underlying chromium electrical leads for impedance-based biosensing. This paper provides a comprehensive description of the new approach to biomass torrefaction under high-pressure conditions. A new type of laboratory-scale high-pressure reactor was designed and built. The aim of the study was to compare the high-pressure torrefaction with conventional near atmospheric pressure torrefaction. Specifically, we investigated the torrefaction process influence on the fuel properties of wooden-pellet for two different pressure regimes up to 15 bar.
